PENT in Female Genital Tract
Primitive neuroectodermal tumour (PNET) and Ewing’s sarcoma suggest a single group of bone and soft-tissue neoplasms.
Peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumour (PNET) in the female genital tract is uncommon.
PNET of the female genital tract:
- Ovary
- Uterine corpus
- Uterine cervix
- Vulva
- Rectovaginal septum
- Utervesical fold
Histological examination revealed the nature as small round cell tumour (SRCT).
Differential diagnosis:
- Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma,
- NonHodgkin’s lymphoma
- PNET/Ewing’s sarcoma
Treatment:
Multiple modalities of treatment like surgery in the form of wide excision or hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-opherectomy, chemotherapy and local radiotherapy have been employed.
