PENT in Female Genital Tract

Primitive neuroectodermal tumour (PNET) and Ewing’s sarcoma suggest a single group of bone and soft-tissue neoplasms.

Peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumour (PNET) in the female genital tract is uncommon.

PNET of the female genital tract:

  • Ovary
  • Uterine corpus
  • Uterine cervix
  • Vulva
  • Rectovaginal septum
  • Utervesical fold

Histological examination revealed the nature as small round cell tumour (SRCT).

Differential diagnosis:

  1. Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma,
  2. NonHodgkin’s lymphoma
  3. PNET/Ewing’s sarcoma

Treatment:
Multiple modalities of treatment like surgery in the form of wide excision or hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-opherectomy, chemotherapy and local radiotherapy have been employed.
